Level: All

Tuition: $336.00

Additional Class Fee: None listed

Description

In this class no thread will have to go home. You may not like the thread color but you may find that it works well with that ugly color in your stash, you know the one. You will go home with samples of how threads look on different material. When quilting, you can use these samples to pick out threads that will either make an area of your quilt pop or neutralize it. Since this three day class is the precursor to the two day Free Motion Quilting we will also be doing exercises that will loosen up your approach to stitching.

Sewing Machine Required

Yes, free motion

Required Materials to Bring

•  Sewing Machine with the ability to drop the feed dogs

•  Free motion or darning foot

•  Needles: what you usually use; 80/12 metallic or 90/12 topstitch or 75/11 universal or 80/12 sharp

•  Small thread scissors

•  Thread (Polyester, cotton or rayon): Colors you use most of the time and some you don't. There will be thread available for sale. Since you will be making samplers to take home for future reference bring a wide variety of thread. (See additional thread needed below.)

•  4 fabric sandwiches 18 x 18: top white, middle a thin batting, bottom black. On two use the white side and layer 2 inch strips of solid colors (hand dyed or store bought) on the other two use the black as the top and layer 2 inch strips of solids and small prints that read close to solid. On one of the strips you can use a bold print if you have one in your stash just to see how it looks. If you are confused go to www.BobAdamsArt.com and click on the class example button and see pictures of what others in class have done.

•  5 - four inch squares in each of the following colors: red, yellow, orange, blue, green, and purple (30 total). You will be doing exercises that require you to affix these squares to a fabric sandwich so they need to have “wonder under” on the back or bring some spray adhesive

•  Thread to match as close as possible to the six colors of your squares

•  6-8 fabric sandwiches 18 x 18, white on one side black on the other with thin batting (These will never go to waste as you can always use them at home as warm ups when you start quilting for the day)

•  Extension cord
